For over thirty years, Save the Children México has worked with boys and girls affected by major disasters throughout the country by implementing its emergency-response program when needed. Through this program, emergency workers have accompanied the children and their families through a process of emotional healing, helping them overcome the distress caused by the crisis. Save the Children's interventions have not been limited exclusively to emotional accompaniment, but have also included ensuring that the basic needs of disaster-affected children and families are met with dignity as well as promoting actions to make sure they are reincorporated into the formal education system as soon as possible. Additionally,
Save the Children México has carried out communtiy-support actions, rebuilding and repairing damaged buildings and infrastructure as part of the recuperation phase in its Emergency Response Program.
At times, the Emergencies Program has served as the platform to initiate Save the Children's permanent programs in education, health, rights, and emergency prevention, amongst others.
Save the Children Mexico carries out non-traditional educational programs with children in the following areas: health, hygiene, nutrition, exploitation, child labor, arts and culture and violence prevention. The topics are covered in ways relevant to each age group and specific to the regions and physical spaces where the programs take place.

Child participation is promoted through a health focused participative model. The program consists of workshops on preventative health, forming school health committees and sanitation campaigns benefiting the community as a whole. Save the Children Mexico trains communities on recurring disease prevention often caused by a lack of information and poor hygiene habits. Another aspect of the program focuses on the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
