Emergency
In response to natural disasters, Save the Children Mexico has been the principal civil organization providing programs that address the psychological and emotional effects of disaster on children and their families, as well as ensuring that their basic needs are met and reincorporating children into the formal educational system. Permanent programs have been established through workshops in schools, youth centers and child development centers, and shelters for those without homes have been built.
In response to natural disasters, Save the Children Mexico incorporates actions focused on reconstruction, rehabilitation, and support for affected communities.
Examples of emergency response programs are programs carried out in response to Hurricanes Stan and Wilma in Southeast Mexico and Hurricane Lane in Sinaloa. Save the Children Mexico successfully implemented emergency response programs after these disasters.
Currently work is still being carried out in the state of Tabasco, which was the area of Mexico most recently affected by natural disaster. We have had an active presence in the wake of other natural disasters in Mexico, such as:
- The earthquake affecting Mexico City in 1985
- Tropical Storm Javier in Chiapas
- Drought in Guanajuato
- Wildfires in California
